The village administrator has embezzled government subsidy for children in Maungdaw Paunjar | Halek Hossain

MAUNGDAW 14 / MAY / 2022 - The village administrator, along with his office clerk in the village of Paunjar (Ashikhafara), north of Maungdaw in Rakhine state, has reportedly embezzled a portion of the government subsidy for malnourished children.

A few days ago, the government subsidy allocated for children under 2 and over 2 years of age in Pounder and Pine Feu villages under the track of Pounder village was not given to all the malnourished children who are eligible and listed. The guardians of the deprived children reported the incident to the village administrator Nazamul Hasan and his general clerk, but they were evicted after threatening not to pay the money as the children's names were not on the list. The victim who is afraid to reveal his name publicly.

According to villagers, the government paid 45,000 kyat for each child under the age of two, but the two miscreants, the village administrator and the clerk, deducted 5,000 kyat from each recipient for their personal gain. Also, they deducted and swallowed 15,000 to 3,000 kyat given as subsidy for children above two years of age.

As administrator Nazumul Hasan and his general clerk misused their power and embezzled government funds for malnourished children, the villagers demanded the authorities to investigate and take effective action against them as soon as possible.
