Iran's army has started electronic warfare drills | Halek Hossain

TEHRAN - Four divisions of Iran's army have begun a joint military exercise aimed at enhancing their electronic warfare capabilities. The exercise called "Separate Hafezan-e Velayat 1402" (Shield of the Guardians of Velayat 1402) began in central Iran on Friday in the presence of the army's chief commander.

Army, Air Force, Navy and Air Defense are taking part in the exercise. The exercise is testing a variety of fixed, mobile, ground-based, and airborne electronic warfare systems. In this particular exercise, air base electronic support operations were implemented by fighters and manned and unmanned aircraft of the Air Force, an Army statement said.

In addition, electronic defense systems located in the general area of practice have successfully implemented passive defense and electronic defense operations against drones and small attack drones. Earlier, Deputy Chief of Army Staff for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibullah Sayari said the exercise would include many electronic warfare exercises.

According to Tasnim, Rear Admiral Sairi said the main objective of the military exercise is to enhance specialized skills and impart experience to the young troops as well as practice war scenarios. He said that due to the importance of electronic warfare in modern warfare and its effective role in future warfare, the Army has over the years paid special attention to electronic warfare technology and training of committed and experienced manpower in this field.

He said Iran's army has achieved significant progress and success in designing and manufacturing the necessary equipment, relying on its specialized knowledge, technical know-how and internal capabilities. “The Army has an adequate infrastructure and we have achieved favorable results in dealing with threats in today's world and anticipating future threats in this sensitive and complex arena.
